Marlborough Regional Information

From its position at the north-eastern corner of the South Island, Marlborough has developed a strong wine industry, recording the highest number of sunshine hours and the lowest number of wet days in New Zealand. As the country's largest grape growing and wine making region, Marlborough is known for its award winning Sauvignon Blanc wines.

The Marlborough Sounds, a network of sea-drowned valleys, are comprised of deep channels, waterways and quiet bays, sheltered by bush-clad hills. They provide a popular destination for sea kayakers and sailers.

The town of Blenheim has a population of 30,000 and is situated in an area with fertile soils and a temperate climate, making it ideal for the establishment of vineyards. Picton is located near the head of Queen Charlotte Sound and is the arrival and departure point for inter-island ferries, transporting passengers and vehicles to and from the North Island.
